Quilts for Healing Heroes Meetings on the First Saturday of the Month, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm Coffee, tea and cold drinks on tap ... bring your own “brown bag” lunch No charge! "Quilts for Healing Heroes" is a project started by Melanie MacGillivray and her daughter Christine to provide a quilt for each and every serviceman and woman in the Canadian Armed Forces who has been wounded in action in the various places the Canadian Forces have stationed them. This is in no way politically motivated and has nothing to do with whether or not we support the government's choice to place these men and women in "harm's way". We have all seen first hand the comfort and healing value the gift of a quilt can be. The aim here is to show our support for our men and women in uniform who return home badly injured -- some maimed for life -- to provide comfort and solace to those who have survived the battles. They are a gesture of concern and deep appreciation for upholding the values that Canadians hold dear. They are a warm hug enfolding those who spend long days in a strange hospital separated from family and friends for long periods of healing. Originally based at Ginny's Premium Quilt Shop, Cock-A-Doodle Quilts is proud to donate our large classroom to continue the good work done by the quilters involved with this project. Meeting on the first Saturday of each month we ask that you call ahead to make sure there is space. Bring your sewing machines, ideas for patterns (no military, political themes or Canadian Flags) and your smiles and we will all work together to make a difference in the lives of those who have strived to make the world a safer place for us. The group has lots of donated fabric on hand for you to work with. If you have something of your own to donate, feel free to bring it along. If you prefer you can help out with binding, basting, quilting etc. Any help is appreciated. If you can't come out to work with the group, feel free to work on a project on your own that you would like to donate. They are looking for lap-sized quilts. Dig out those “orphan” blocks and see if you can come up with something to help out. If you want more information, just call the store and we will be happy to chat with you or put you in touch with the coordinator. |
